Tesla Motors Takes Pre-Orders For Model 3 From Next Month

Masses will soon drive Tesla's highly affordable Model 3 within a price range of $35,000.

The goal of Tesla Motors was to bring electric cars to the public. After over a decade of work, Tesla CEO Elon Musk holds the belief it is just the time. The company is ready to take pre-orders on its electric vehicle Model 3 worth $35,000 in March. By $35,000, it really means just $25,000.
The California automaker confirmed that its Model 3’s price tag of $35,000 does not include the major state and federal incentives offered to buyers of electric vehicles. The company officially confirmed when Elon spoke to reporters at an auto show more than a year ago. "When I say $35,000, I'm talking about without any credits," he said.
The distinction made between the price after and before tax subsidies is significant; these taxation incentives are capable of knocking off up to $10,000 from the purchasing cost, drastically adding to the size of the automotive market for the Model 3.
The car’s pre-subsidy price was much doubted after the organization offered its Model X luxury SUV at a starting price of $80,000, over the initial expectations of analysts. To understand the importance of pricing, just have a look at what Americans are presently interested in spending.
The average new vehicle costs around $31,000, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s Salim MorsyAlmost all mass-market automobiles delivered over that price ceiling are trucks and SUVs. There is only one vehicle comparable in terms of size to Model 3 that is amassing over 100,000 in yearly sales with a price tag of $35,000 – the BMW 3 series.
A Tesla worth $25,000 would upend the American automotive market. Incentives are widely varying state to state but a $7500 worth federal income tax credit is offered to everyone in the U.S.
Reducing the Model 3 sticker price by that much amount would extend the potential market by approximately half. Extra incentives would further cut down the price in over 12 American states that include an additional $2500 in Tennessee, California and Massachusetts, and $6000 in Colorado.
The only limiting factor for Tesla’s sales in this price range would be the ability of the company to crank out vehicles. Investors intensely scrutinized Tesla after delays in production for the ongoing launch of its SUV Model X.
The stock dropped by 38% this year, cutting down the market value by $12 billion. Pressure has already mounted for launching the Model 3, which Elon said, would be manufactured in 2016.
Whether anyone will really purchase Model 3 for a price of $25,000 relies on the automaker launching it in the market on time, and staying on schedule is not the strong suit of Tesla. The organization is known for launching new products after delaying for many years – from its Tesla Roadster to the recently launched Model X.
