Yahoo Sunsets Yahoo Pipes, Along With Yahoo Maps And More

Yahoo is closing many of its subsidiaries, might as well take down the international media ambitions that it had.
Before the times we had tools like those of IFTTT, which helped the users to mash up the data coming from web services and also the other content in different ways, there had been Yahoo Pipes which is an online visual interface that lets the users filter and aggregate the web data without you being knowledgeable about the programming skills.
However, now Yahoo Pipes is going to be laid to rest. Latest Yahoo news reports that the service shall close down, along with others such as GeoPlanet, Yahoo Maps and PlaceSpotter APIs and also the regional offerings and more. This had been announced last week on the company’s blog, which describes that the tech giant wants to focus the resources on the products which are in areas of communications, digital content and search.
In order to make that happen, the company will end the support for some of the services which were on older platforms. For instance, Yahoo Mail shall no longer be working in built in Mail app from iOS on the devices priot to iOS 5 beginning from June 15th. Also, Yahoo Contact sync shall not work on Macs that are earlier than Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
In any and both of these cases, users shall be redirected to the web browser. Furthermore, Yahoo news reports that the Yahoo Maps will be shutting at the end of this month. However, the maps will be continued for the support in terms of Flickr and Yahoo Search. The developers that are using PlaceSpotter and GeoPlanet APIs shall be asked to use BOSS and Yahoo Query Language which is also known as YQL, the older APIs will be retiring in Q3.
There are numerous regional properties that are going to be closed in June and July as per the company reports. This will include Yahoo Movies in Spain, Yahoo Music in Canada and France, homepage of Yahoo Philippines and also the genre specific media sites such as that of Yahoo TV in England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and also in Canada.
Yahoo Autos will be closing in France, Germany, UK, Italy and Spain. The company states that the content from all of these sites will be be “redistributed across the Yahoo network.” The changes like these signify that this is more of ending international media ambitions that the company had and also some of the same media property shutdowns back in 2014.
The Pipes creation shall not be supported till August 30, 2015, Yahoo reports. The infrastructure of Pipes will be running until September 30, 2015 in the mode of read-only one so that the data migration can be done by the developers.
